Gene Epstein joined Barron’s in February 1992 as Commodities Editor and quickly became the weekly’s first Economics Editor and the first to write the column, “Economic Beat,”--which he writes to this day. He is also the Barron’s Book Review Editor. He is the author of ECONOSPINNING: How to Read between the Lines when the Media Manipulate the Numbers (Wiley & Sons) and did a 13-year stint at the New York Stock Exchange, mainly as a senior economist. He taught economics at the City University of New York and St. John’s University--and holds an M.A. in economics from the New School and a B.A. in history from Brandeis University. He has appeared on Fox, CNBC, BBC TV, and on libertarian podcasts, including “The Tom Woods Show”and Dave Smith’s “Part of the Problem.” He’s the director of the newly-created Soho Forum (TheSohoForum.org), which will be sponsoring libertarian debates and lectures this fall in the Soho district of Manhattan.
